The chassis of our G5, has just returned from the paintshop. It's looking good in black. With the car all striped down to the bare spaceframe, it was possible to weigh it. With paint, the spaceframe weighs 31.0 kg. The next one will be lighter. [gallery link="file"]

What does a spin in the G5 racer look like? Take a look at the video, and find out. This footage was shoot at the Fomula Student event at Silverstone 2012. The lap shown, was our fastest attempt at the sprint competition, enjoy.

The team managed to finish the work on the car, in time for the Fomula Student event at Silverstone. 110 cars was competing. Many didn't make it through all the test and events. But our Unicorn G5, made it, and we achieved the best result in the teams history, a overall number 25.

This (danish) report was shot a few hours before we left for Silverstone. It focuses on a technical problem we had with the engine. As a result of a great team effort we got the engine running, and we could start our journey for Silverstone.

The team has applied to participate in this year Baltic Open competition. The event will take place in august near Darmstadt. Baltic Open is a nonofficial event, giving teams a great opportunity to practice racing while meeting other teams. The social aspect between the teams is an important part of Baltic Open. Participating has to be fun, that’s why we have made this film. To apply for the event, all teams are required to submit a short entertaining film about the car. On March 1st we got the engine running. This was a major milestone on our road towards this year completion at Silverstone. After a period with vast activity on the project it is rewarding for all involved, to see results. And we got good results - the engine started well! We predict it will output more power than it did in the old car, mainly due to our new exhaust, supercharging systems and new drivetrain. [gallery link="file"] Having a functional engine means that many subsystems, mechanical and electric has to work together, which they do now. This brings us a lot closer to the test track. Next big step is to prepare for a test on a “rolling road”. This will allow us to test the engine, supercharger, fuel-system and drivetrain at successive higher loads, until we are certain it is ready for track testing. Preparing for this test means a completion of several systems. Among those who still need work done are, the antirollbar setup, flooring in front of the driver and finishing the fuel tank. We can’t wait to take it for a spin!

It’s about to happen. All the systems related to the engine is coming together, and we’re almost ready to fire it up for the first time in the G5 racecar. We have managed to produce complicated components such as complete self-designed and made exhaust system, and drive wheels for the supercharger. The new car also features a brand new fuelline design with an external fuelpump and a tank made of thin aluminum-sheet. We’re excited to get it up and running.

After a long period of fabrication, it’s finally racing time. This time we’re heading to Sweden. Baltic Open 2011 is arranged by Clear River Racing. It's an unofficial competition which provide a great opportunity to meet with teams from Scandinavia and Germany. Read more about the event here. We hope to have a good time, and to gain more racing experience. We will be racing the G3 – that recently has been repaired as we had some trouble with the power-take-out shaft. The shaft broke and left the engine running without the supercharger. We hope the rebuild will work, now that the design is modified for better durability.

All the lasercut pieces has been welded in place, and a complete spaceframe chassis is the result. Through a long process of measuring and constructing weldments jigs - we have accomplished  building a fairly accurate construction, with the right mounting points for the engine and suspension joints. Today we finally disconnected the chassis from the weldments jigs, a great milestone.
